Nspa Thai Spa Rituals Scented Candle - A Review

At New Year here in Aberdeen, we indulge in a tradition known as 'First Footing'.  Usually it would be something like a bottle of booze or a box of chocolates but this year my mum gave me this candle instead as she knows I'm not much of a drinker and chocolate was on the naughty list... yeah, was...

The brand is 'nspa' and is sold at Asda.    

The candle is part of the Thai Spa Rituals range and is a Frangipani and Coconut scented affair, with essential oil of jasmine, tuberose, gardenia, sweet orange blossom and amber woods.

Very pretty box and the candle was well wrapped in tissue paper.  The candle holder itself is a nice white, frosted glass container.  It is not particularly cumbersome at 180g but should give around 30 hours burn time (I always find these estimates optimistic). 

Truthfully, of all the scents listed above I could smell none! I'm a big fan of anything coconut so was really looking forward to it but I couldn't even detect a hint of it.

It's a pretty offering and if you are looking for something cheap that lights up, it serves that function very well although I did notice that straight away there was a pretty impressive 'well' round the wick and that didn't disappear after a few hours burning.  If it is strong scent throw that you are looking for, I wouldn't recommend this.

All in all, a pretty and inexpensive gift for yourself or someone else to light whilst in the bath but it won't have you lying there thinking of tropical beaches and men in trunks serving you pina coladas... sigh.

Thanks Santa!!

Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and new year, now that the fun part is over it's time for putting away the decorations and finding space for all your lovely goodies!

I was quite lucky this year and below is my 'stash' minus the chocolates, they are long gone! 

This is my goodies from my partner.

Owl slipper boots, they are cute and have a pink fluffy inside.  I also got some angora wool blend socks, they are from primark.  They again have a cute owl pattern but I won't use them as I am not comfortable with angora and the way it's obtained.

Some royal jelly bubble bath, I must admit, my initial reaction was that I'm not 70 and this is for old ladies but it's ok, it doesn't have a particularly strong scent and it creates decent enough bubbles. One major plus for living in the north east of Scotland is that we have soft water which means we get a good lather going on.  When I was at my partners mums in Kent, I thought I had forgotten how to wash my hair, there was nothing!! The book is a recipe book full of chocolatey goodness, not ideal for the New Year diet!

The Opi (I picked up this one in Sally's and told him it was from him!) is 'Black Cherry Chutney', it is a very dark, vampy colour but it has a shimmer in it that just catches the light beautifully.

This is my favourite and this was the result of an email being sent to him telling him 'I want this one please!'.  The parfum is Botannical Essence No15 by Liz Earle and I love it.  I spritzed this many moons ago in John Lewis and have longed for it ever since! At the time of the email, there was a special offer on if you bought a botanical essence, you got the nail polish and lip gloss free, absolute bonus! It also came with a mini cleanse and polish.

The rest I got from my mum and step-dad, brother and my auntie, bless their socks, we weren't supposed to be doing gifts this year (although I did get my mum and step-dad a wee pressie each).  My partner and I were cooking dinner for everyone though, I think there ended being twelve of us! 

So alongside the super cosy dressing gown, with a hood, the obligatory socks and pitch perfect dvd (it has a uv code too so it has now found a place in my ipad!). I got Lady Millions perfume, totally unexpected, I have had a quick sniff and it seems lovely but nothing can drag me away from the Liz Earle at the moment.

This opi was part of a set I bought at TK Maxx and said to my mum to get my brother to give it to me but she ended up giving it to me - monkey! It's called 'Current Crush' and it is a lovely purple with silver sparkles through it, it is a liquid sand and is one of several new liquid sands I have added to my collection recently! Oopsy! 

A nice bracelet to add to my collection, apparently it is pearl and supposed to promote calmness and relaxation - not sure if mum is trying to tell me something?!? One of my aims this year is to accessorise more and so this is perfect!  

It's not christmas anymore without a soap and glory gift set! I love soap and glory products so this is most welcome and will most definitely get used!

And last up was this Glade 'Winter Berries' candle.  It's a lovely little candle and initially I thought the scent would carry well but once lit, I couldn't really smell it unless I was at a certain distance and angle.

Just wait til you see what I bought myself for Christmas though, I have probably made it on to the 'naughty list' for next Christmas already!

Summer is not yet over

As Autumn approaches pretty quickly up here in the North East (of Scotland), it's time to get cosy!

I don't like putting the heating on this early in the year and so prefer to use fluffy jumpers and candles to keep me toasty of an evening.  

A few months ago now, I was walking past Clinton Cards and they had a display of Yankee Candles on their shop floor, the main attraction being the delicious summer scoop.  Ever since then, I couldn't stop thinking of the summery scent and so purchased it two weeks ago from this seller, on Ebay, free p+p was the clincher.  You can get the candles from Yankee Direct too but there is postage charges to add on.  

Two Weekends ago, I was strolling through my local Dobbies (garden centre) after having a magnificent breakfast there and spotted their Yankee display.  If you have a Dobbies near you, I would definately go and check it out as they often have special deals going on their candles.  I got this huge Coral Beach jar for £12, when they usually retail for about £20.

Coral Beach seems to be pretty difficult to track down in the UK which is unfortunate and to get it shipped from the US will cost over £20 in postage alone!! It is a lovely scent though, almost like peach chewits.  It is a very addictive scent.  I almost never bought it as I had already bought Summer Scoop but I had to go back for it! 

Summer Scoop is definitely my favourite one of the two though, It smells just like the graphic on the label, of strawberry ice cream and summertime! 

One thing about Yankee Candles I like is that the jars are re-usable, I currently have one in my bathroom that I use to store my cotton wool in, much swisher than the usual draw-string poly bags.

Pretty posies!

Hiiiiii!

So right now, I'm loving flowers, I love being around them, I love looking at nice pictures of them and I've even looked into taking a flower arranging class! Next step, WI meetings?!?! 

I recently bought some posies that were reduced and although they don't really go with my decor, I loved the bright cheery colours.

Once I trimmed them down and removed excess leaves, there wasn't much left and I didn't have a small enough vase to put the in without them looking lost and so I came up with this...

An old spice jar! 

I think it looks really cute and would be lovely with sweet peas in it and a wee ribbon just to decorate it.  

The candle is a citronella one which I picked up at home bargains as for some reason the midges are loving me this year! I haven't yet got round to lighting it though as its just too hot to contemplate candles! Haha!
