Maybelline Dream Pure - A Review

Although I pretty much moan constantly about how spotty my jawline and chin area are at the moment, there are some days when I really don't want/ can't be bothered to apply a full face of slap and rather would prefer to let my skin breathe a little.  This is where 'Maybelline Dream Pure 8-in-1 BB Cream' comes in.

This is slightly different from the previously released 'Dream Fresh' bb from Maybelline.  The two main differences I can spot is that 'Fresh' has an SPF30 whereas this one, 'Pure' has and SPF15.  My initial thought for this being that the higher the SPF, the higher the pore clogging ability too (comedogenic properties if you like...).  This leads nicely onto the second difference between the two products, the 'Pure' version contains 2% Salicylic acid, which is fast gaining a reputation as one of the best spot fighting ingredients around.  

As always, the 'Light' in this range, is not particularly 'Light'! And gain, the tone leans slightly more yellow too.  Aside from that, the texture is nice and creamy without being too heavy and it blends in easily.  The coverage is light but if you use a brush to apply it, it is buildable.  It is very good at evening out the skin tone and although it doesn't disguise blemishes as such, it does mask some of the redness.  What is most important for me is the finished effect, it is not too matte and therefore doesn't cling to any dry patches however, it is not so dewy that it highlights bumps and blemishes.

It does contain Dimethicone which is a silicone, so something to be wary of if you are not keen on using silicone products on your skin.  I would also recommend to be careful if you have normal/dry skin types this may dry your skin out a wee bit.

As it is oil free, wear time is pretty good, you would get most of the day out of this, even longer if you use a matte primer or moisturiser before application. 

As for spot fighting abilities, I don't personally find this makes a difference to my breakouts but as they appear to be hormone related, there's only so much one can do from the outside!

For the price, I think this is a really good 'popping to the shops for milk' base and would definitely repurchase this.

Maybelline 'The Rocket' - Did it blow me away?

Happy Friday Peeps!

Recently, I went out to meet some chums and in my haste, I completely forgot to put on mascara!  I don't know how it happened but luckily once I got into twon, there was a boots still open.  As I was running late, I prettty much grabbed the first mascara off the first make up stand!

As a result, I got 'The Rocket Volum' Express' by Maybelline in the shade 'Very Black'.  I should also point out that this is the waterproof version.   

Maybelline claim that lashes will have 8x more volume or Volum'(?) using their Jet Glide brush with Felxi-Fine bristles which prevent clumps forming.  The Brush is one of those plastic spoolies and it is rather fat.

With the fat brush, I do find it hard to not get mascara on my eyelid when applying.  This is fine for during the day when I don't bother with eye make up for work but if I had just spent ages doing a smokey eye, I would be a bit miffed!! 

This is my lashes at 10pm.  I have not applied anymore mascar nor have I curled them again.

My first impressions of this mascara were that it was absolute rubbish! It gave no lift to my lashes, it barely looked like I had even put mascara on and it was not improved with two coats.  However, when I applied it after curling my lashes first, my opinion has gone full circle to really rating this! Once my lashes are curled, I find this really helps them to hold a curl like no other mascar I have tried before, I don't know if it is because the formula is waterproof but it definitely holds its own and a curl.  As for the water proof part, it does the job, I managed to walk to work in the rain without having mascar all down my face, always a bonus! It does make it a bit more troublesome to remove though but just go gentle and try and use an oi based remover.

I would recommend this mascara if your lashes are long enough to be curled, otherwise I didn't feel it offered much definition itself.

I jumped on the bandwagon

There has been so many new cosmetic releases of late and this is yet another raved about item that has made it's way from the US.
Maybelline Baby Lips is available in many places in the UK now for about £2.99.  Superdrug also have them on offer as 2 for £5 saving the princely sum of 98p!
There are six different types, three of them are untinted and three are tinted.

I was actually keen to get the Cherry Lips one but at the last minute decided I would brave Pink Punch.

The bullet itself is housed in a pretty sturdy, run of the mill twist up tube.

There is quite a lot of product there and the colour is surprisingly buildable.  Maybelline claim that the product provides eight hours of moisture but I feel it falls short of that at maybe three to four hours, even less if eating and drinking is involved.  The good thing is that it is handbag handy and so its not too bothersome to reapply on the move.

Pink punch itself has a lovely fruity scent, just like a summery punch drink and has a nice pink tint to it which isn't too bright.  It leaves lips with a nice sheen whilst also giving a wash of colour with just one swipe.  The colour can be built up to give a more intense finish but it is never going to be opaque.

All in all, I find this a cute product that helps keep lips hydrated and looking juicy for a reasonable price but if you are suffering from really dry or chapped lips, you're gonna need something a bit more powerful methinks!

Something to note, the untinted treatment type ones have an SPF 20.

Maybelline Fit Me, please?!?!

I am forever searching for my Holy Grail foundation, at the moment, I am having a lot of breakouts which I believe to be hormone related and so really would like to find a foundation with medium to full coverage that doesn't cake, good luck with that I hear you say!  

To top it off, I have very pink tones to my skin which does not go well with the usual yellow toned offerings of most high street and high end brands.

My latest quest led me to Maybelline Fit Me foundation in shade 115.

My first plus is the packaging, it comes with a handy pump dispenser in a nice glass bottle so you can see the amount of product you have.

It is marketed as the brands first gel foundation, with no waxes and fillers which allows the skin to breathe.

The maybelline website allows you to select the shade that is right for you, judging by your answers to two simple questions.

I picked shade 115 as I am very pale (my neck is much paler than my face) and I have pink undertones, my first impression was that it was too yellow for my skin. *sob*. 

It does blend in a bit better but on my face and neck I found it to be too yellow for my tastes and also a bit dark.  It looked not too bad if you just look at my face but trying to blend it into my neck was just not happening.

I also found that it slid about my face, even with the use of primer and settled into any lines or creases in my face.  The coverage was pretty low but you could build it up a tad and the range also has a concealer and powder to go with your chosen shade.  I felt that this made my face look and feel a wee bit oily and so that didn't help it stay in place either.

All in all, not quite for me but the texture is nice and feels very lightweight on the skin and perhaps this would work better on normal to dry skin types.  

At the moment, I am using this mixed in with L'oreal Lumi Magique in 'Rose Pearl' for my at work foundation but it's really just to try and use them both up!

I have my eye on Max factor next!

A never ending search!

If there is one thing I have yet to find, it is my Holy Grail daily foundation.

Most of the foundations I have tried are either too dark or too yellow or both.  I have very pale skin with very rosey undertones, and I have an even paler neck which is a pain for blending! 

I got my paws on this sachet of Maybelline Dream Matte mousse from a magazine and although I had resigned myself to the fact that the shade would not be suitable for me, I was intrigued by the texture and coverage offered by this foundation.  

The sachet itself contained the shade 'Nude 21' and when I opened it I thought there was no way going to be enough to cover my whole face but I was wrong! 

It would seem a little goes a long way with this one, it comes out as a creamy mousse like texture which feels very light on the skin, it blends well but I think if you tried to build up the coverage it would start to become quite chalky. 

Again, I found the shade to be too yellow but it blended out to be more subtle.  It offers a light to medium coverage, perhaps more than the likes of a BB cream or a tinted moisturiser but not as much as Estee Lauder Double Wear.  It definitely has a matte finish, so if you are into a dewy finish this is certainly not for you.

'Maybe she's born with it...'

I recently received this Maybelline Superstay 14hr wear Lipstick after winning a competition run by 'Fab' magazine, which I entered on Facebook.  

First and foremost, the packaging is really quite sleek and handbag friendly although for some reason I kept thinking it was a gloss and then getting surprised when I opened it and discover all over again its a lipstick - this has seriously happened every time I have opened it! 

An important note, this is the yummiest smelling lipstick I've ever came across, it has such a lovely fruity scent that kept me going back to sniff it! 

The lipstick itself had a lovely teardrop shape tip which allows for neat application, especially round the Cupid's bow area.

The colour I was given was 'Ultimate Blush' and although in the tube it looked like a 'just been kissed' kinda rose, on application it actually had a lot more of a shimmer to it. I've tried to show on the picture below how shimmery it was.

The texture was quite nice but I felt it leaned towards the drier side of things, possibly the reason why there was so much shimmer to try and give off a glossier finish? 

The longevity was not the 14 hours claimed but more like 6 which is still pretty reasonable.  After eating and drinking the shimmer vanished and left more of a lip stain effect behind.

I think that this would perhaps last longer if you do the apply, blot, apply method.  Worth a try! 

The only downfall to this I felt, was the shimmer, I felt it made me look older! 

I've since given this to my boss as I felt it was right up her street and she loves it, she loved the fact that the colour was still there, as a stain, at 2pm after putting it on at 8am.
